The Rehabilitation Department operates under the motto of "starting intensive rehabilitation immediately after illness or injury." Rehabilitation specialists conduct examinations and review rehabilitation plans, providing physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and orthotic therapy. Primarily serving inpatients, we provide rehabilitation for conditions such as stroke, head injury, spinal cord injury, post-operative plastic surgery diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, neurological and muscular diseases, limb amputations, childhood illnesses, respiratory diseases, and cancer. We also offer rehabilitation for dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) and higher brain dysfunction. Beyond rehabilitation training, we also focus on botulinum toxin therapy for spasticity associated with stroke and other diseases, as well as other advanced rehabilitation treatments. Treatment details
In the rehabilitation department (hereafter referred to as "rehabilitation"), we provide physical, occupational, and speech-language-hearing therapy under the prescription of rehabilitation specialists, with the motto of "intensive rehabilitation from the acute phase." Our hospital is a training facility certified by the Japanese Society of Rehabilitation Medicine, with a total floor space of approximately 700 m2 for the rehabilitation outpatient department and training room, and has acquired facility standards for rehabilitation for cerebrovascular disease (I), musculoskeletal rehabilitation (I), respiratory rehabilitation (I), and cancer patient rehabilitation. Medical treatment is primarily provided in response to requests from each department, and we treat both inpatients and outpatients. In addition, we also provide electrophysiological diagnostics, including electromyography, as clinical testing.
Main target diseases
This includes all diseases and conditions that require rehabilitation, such as stroke, spinal cord injury and other spinal cord diseases, rheumatoid arthritis and other musculoskeletal diseases and injuries, brain trauma and other brain disorders (brain tumors, etc.), neuromuscular diseases (Parkinson's disease, muscular dystrophy, etc.), peripheral neuropathy, limb amputation, heart disease (post-myocardial infarction, etc.), respiratory diseases (emphysema, etc.), after-effects of burns, malignant tumors (post-breast cancer surgery, etc.), and children with cerebral palsy.
Main medical achievements
Our department receives approximately 4,000 cases annually, approximately 90% of which are hospitalized patients. Because our hospital houses Emergency Medical Center, we begin rehabilitation for stroke, multiple trauma, and burn patients during ICU treatment. Early rehabilitation and mobilization are generally recommended, and in cerebrovascular accidents, rehabilitation often begins within a few days of onset. We believe that early rehabilitation not only contributes to the promotion of recovery from motor disorders, but also prevents the onset of disuse syndromes such as joint contractures and muscle atrophy, leading to early improvement in ADLs and maintaining a high quality of life at home after discharge. Our department's unique services include the prescription and fabrication of prosthetic devices, such as prosthetic limbs, orthotics, wheelchairs, and seating devices, in each specialized outpatient clinic (approximately 600 cases are handled annually across all clinics). Botulinum therapy, a new treatment for spastic hemiplegia of the limbs caused by stroke or other conditions, is also gaining attention, and is offered in our special outpatient program. Our department, which includes a board-certified physician from the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine, performs approximately 400 electromyography tests annually to diagnose peripheral nerve disorders and neuromuscular diseases. Furthermore, we perform approximately 300 videofluoroscopic swallowing tests annually, and we also focus on feeding and swallowing rehabilitation for patients with swallowing disorders.
