Greetings
Effective April 1, 2026, we have established a new Comprehensive Stroke Center (CSC) at Tokai University Hospital (Isehara). While we have always strived to provide stroke care to the surrounding area, this new center will allow us to make our services more accessible and easier for everyone to understand.
In stroke treatment, where "Time is Brain!" is a constant battle, our stroke center has established itself as a core hub for acute stroke care in the region, providing advanced and standardized medical care as a Primary Stroke Center (PSC) core facility certified by the Japanese Stroke Society. A PSC core facility is certified only to facilities that meet strict standards regarding the specialists, medical system, equipment, treatment results, and educational system necessary for stroke treatment, and is expected to play a central role in acute stroke care in the region. Our center intends to fulfill this responsibility by actively accepting patients 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, as we have done in the past.

Overview
At our center, a stroke hotline is immediately activated upon emergency transport, and a multidisciplinary team including Department of Neurology, Neurosurgery, emergency physicians, radiologists, nurses, and clinical engineers collaborates to provide smooth and uninterrupted care, aiming to deliver advanced medical treatment quickly and enable patients to be discharged without lasting effects.
Clinical service
1) Medical care system for acute stroke
Immediately upon arrival by ambulance, CT and MRI imaging are performed. For ischemic stroke, intravenous thrombolytic therapy (tPA therapy) is administered within 4.5 hours of onset, after a rigorous assessment of its suitability. Furthermore, in cases of major artery occlusion, mechanical thrombectomy is performed promptly to restore blood flow.
We provide advanced medical care for hemorrhagic stroke, combining surgical treatment with intensive medical management. Our Intensive Care Unit is staffed by medical professionals highly skilled in neurocritical care, ensuring comprehensive patient management and enabling us to handle even severe cases. Furthermore, we provide high-quality medical care through consistent, specialized management from the acute phase onward.
2) Support system during the recovery period
Following acute treatment, we provide early rehabilitation intervention, with specialized physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists involved from the early stages of the illness to maximize functional recovery and support social reintegration. Furthermore, by strengthening collaboration with local rehabilitation hospitals and primary care physicians, and facilitating smooth referrals after acute treatment, we aim to build a cyclical healthcare system that can accommodate more patients throughout the region.
Stroke strikes suddenly and has a profound impact on the lives of patients and their families. At our center, we provide comprehensive care that includes not only medical treatment but also guidance on preventing recurrence, support for improving lifestyle habits, and assistance with returning to society, ensuring that patients can live with peace of mind even after discharge.
