What is a second opinion?
This refers to seeking an opinion (second opinion) from a specialist other than the doctor at the hospital where the patient is currently being treated, so that the patient and their family can choose a better treatment plan that they are satisfied with.
With recent advances in medical technology, various treatment strategies have been established even for the same disease. As a university hospital that provides advanced and specialized medical care, we have opened a second opinion outpatient clinic.
At our hospital's second opinion outpatient clinic, specialists will provide their opinions regarding diagnosis and treatment based on the medical information provided (referral letter). The decision will be based on what the patient has to say and the information provided by their current doctor, so no new tests or treatments will be performed.
If you would like to receive a second opinion, please contact us by phone.
(Reservations are required.)
TEL: 0463-93-1121 (main)
Please tell the telephone operator that you would like a second opinion.
Applications for the following purposes will not be accepted:
-
I would like to receive diagnosis and treatment at our hospital.
-
I want to know if my doctor is a good doctor.
-
Consultation regarding dissatisfaction or complaints about your doctor.
-
I want to know if my previous treatment was correct.
-
I don't trust my doctor, so I would like to have surgery at our hospital.
Those who fall under the above categories will be treated as normal patients. Please see For First-Time Patients for application procedures.
In principle, second opinion outpatient services are conducted in person, but if a patient is unable to come to the hospital, a family member may come alone with a consent form from the patient (any format is acceptable). Please be sure to bring proof of your relationship to the patient (health insurance card, etc.) when visiting the hospital.
In addition, our hospital's second opinion outpatient clinic has a limited number of doctors who specialize in certain fields. If your desired specialty is not available at our hospital, or if you would like to meet with a doctor other than those designated, please consult with the person in charge.
If you wish to get a second opinion at another hospital
If you have any concerns or questions about the treatment plan proposed by our hospital, you can get a second opinion from a specialist at another hospital.
If you would like to get a second opinion from another hospital, please feel free to ask your doctor.
You will then be given a medical information form (for the purpose of obtaining a second opinion), which you should submit to the medical institution where you would like to obtain a second opinion.
