Sensory Impairments Center

Greetings

Sensory organ diseases have often been left untreated unless they cause significant disruption to daily life, but in recent years, it has been shown that they can actually lead to the onset of various diseases such as dementia and depression, and it is therefore considered important to provide appropriate prevention, diagnosis, and intervention without leaving them untreated. The 21st century is said to be the era of the sensory organs, and various new technologies such as cochlear implants are being put into practical use and are becoming established for conditions that were previously difficult to treat.

In order to maintain a healthy daily life, we encourage you to consult a doctor if you have any symptoms that concern you. However, visiting a university hospital may seem like a psychological hurdle, so we will strive to build a medical network with nearby medical institutions and provide high-quality sensory organ medical care through this network.

Overview

Diseases that affect the sensory organs, which are responsible for various senses such as hearing, vision, smell, taste, touch, and balance, significantly impair our quality of life. Because these diseases do not have a direct impact on life, they are often put off, but in Japan, which is becoming a super-aging society, providing specialized medical care for sensory organ diseases is considered important in order to solve the major challenge of extending healthy life expectancy (the period during which one can live without daily life being restricted by health problems).

Therefore, at Tokai University Hospital specialists in sensory organ diseases have come together to form Sensory Impairments Center, which provides cutting-edge medical care for sensory organ diseases, establishes a medical network for sensory organ diseases, trains personnel involved in the treatment of sensory organ diseases, provides consultation support and information on sensory organ diseases, and also conducts clinical research to generate new knowledge about sensory organ diseases.
