Pediatric Surgery

Treatment details

Pediatric Surgery treats surgical diseases, primarily of the digestive tract, in newborns through 15 years of age. When diseases are discovered in the neonatal or fetal stage, they are admitted to Center for Comprehensive Perinatal Medicine in collaboration with pediatrics and Obstetrics departments, while infants and older are treated in specialized pediatric wards. We have introduced same-day endoscopic surgery for inguinal hernias and actively perform endoscopic surgery in standard Pediatric Surgery surgery procedures. We have expanded endoscopic surgery beyond the digestive tract to include urinary and respiratory diseases, and provide safe, minimally invasive surgical procedures under the guidance of a certified pediatric surgeon (Pediatric Surgery) by the Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery.

Pediatric Surgery surgery involves multiple organs, so multidisciplinary teamwork is crucial. We strive to maintain smooth collaboration with pediatrics, including the NICU team, as well as other related departments, such as adult Gastroenterological Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, Department of Diagnostic Pathology, obstetrics and gynecology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and radiology, depending on the disease. We provide treatment while considering questions like, "How would I make this decision if this child were my own?" and "How would my family want the doctor to treat me?" We strive to provide thorough explanations that take into consideration the feelings of the family. Our department provides Pediatric Surgery surgery for a wide area in western Kanagawa Prefecture. We aim to foster strong regional collaboration through face-to-face relationships between Pediatric Surgery, including by holding patient case meetings.
